Proclaiming Christ Crucified
When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. My speech and my proclamation were not with plausible words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.


The True Wisdom of God
Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish. But we speak God's wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the human heart conceived,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—
these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. And we speak of these things in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual things to those who are spiritual.

Public Citizen Wins Lawsuit Against Justice Department Over Implementation of Long-Delayed Vehicle Database



Court-Imposed Deadline for National Auto Database Will Save Lives, Keep Unsafe Vehicles Off the Road

Under our constitution, Congress makes the laws and the Executive Branch is expected to take care that they are faithfully executed. But what happens when a government agency doesn't do its job? Over the years, Public Citizen has sued the government many times asking courts to compel do-nothing federal agencies to take action when people's health, safety, and important consumer rights are at stake.

This month, Public Citizen won an important victory against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), requiring the government to implement a long-delayed database that will let consumers instantly check the validity of a car's title and mileage and determine whether the vehicle has been junked, salvaged, or rebuilt after a wreck. The database will prevent and deter auto fraud and steer consumers clear of unsafe vehicles.

Public Citizen, along with the California-based organizations Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety and Consumer Action, sued the DOJ in February. We argued that the government had violated a statutory deadline for implementing the database by more than a decade and that its illegal delay was harming consumers. The DOJ countered by challenging our standing to sue, arguing the statute of limitations had run, and urging the court to do nothing because the government was planning to implement the system --eventually.

Rejecting the government's arguments, U.S. Judge Marilyn Hall Patel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled that the government has until January 30, 2009 to make this information available to consumers. The government must also issue regulations requiring states, insurance companies, and junk yards to send additional information to the database by the end of March 2009. The court retained jurisdiction and required progress reports from the government's lawyers.

The court's order is the final chapter in a sixteen-year history of delay. When Congress passed a law in 1992 requiring a national database to deter auto fraud and prevent injury and death from unsafe vehicles, no one expected that it would take well over a decade until it became reality. The 1992 law required the government to establish and implement the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), a single database that would provide public access to vehicle-history information gathered from a variety of public and private sources.

Senator Charles Schumer of New York, who sponsored the legislation when he was a member of the House of Representatives, said the database was "a common sense measure to fight auto theft and to protect the public from fraud. I am encouraged by Public Citizen's efforts on this case and I hope that this important law will finally be enforced as it should have been from day one."

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is inching ever closer to the $4 mark throughout the country, climbing another penny overnight to $3.962, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.

Retail gasoline prices have now established a record for 23 consecutive days.

One month ago regular gasoline sold for $3.617 and one year ago a gallon of diesel sold for $3.191.

"I do think we could get to $4," said Geoff Sundstrom, a spokesman for AAA. "We could get there right in time for June 1."

Regular gasoline sells for an average price above $4 in 12 states and the District of Columbia. The price of regular in Indiana fell below $4 to $3.998 after rising beyond the mark earlier in the week.

Diesel prices continue their rampage with the national average price for a gallon sitting at $4.792. Diesel prices have surpassed $5 in some parts of the country, including California, adding to the rise in food prices and other consumer goods.

Mid-grade gasoline now sells above $4 in 46 states, averaging $4.207 a gallon. Premium now sells for an average national price of $4.358 a gallon, above the $4 mark in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Consumers are reporting that rising gasoline prices are changing their commuting habits. More than four in 10 said gasoline prices affected their commutes, according to a recent study by Robert Half International.

That's up from 34 percent reporting changes one year ago.

Prices are compelling more carpooling and ride sharing with 33 percent of those questioned considering a more fuel efficient vehicle. Almost 30 percent plan to work more from home.

Here is a look at some gasoline prices from around the country in the ConsumerAffairs.Com Gas Price Round Up.

California: Regular self-serve gasoline averages $4.198 in California. Diesel sells for an average of $5.152 in the state.

Four-dollar regular unleaded prices have spread to every metropolitan area in the state. Prices have climbed 15 cents to 20 cents in most areas in just the past week, according to AAA.

"Prices jumped by 10 cents over the Memorial Day weekend in most local areas," said Jeffrey Spring, a spokesman for the Automobile Club of Southern California. "Without a plummet in our record crude oil prices, it's hard to know when motorists will get any relief at the pump."

Gasoline is selling throughout the state for almost 75 cents a gallon more than at this time last year, the AAA said.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.112 a gallon, which is 15.3 cents more than last week. In San Diego, the price is $4.165, which is 15.6 cents higher than last week's price.

The most expensive regular gasoline in California is found in Santa Barbara for $4.262, AAA reported. That's up more than 15 cents from last week in the seaside city.The cheapest average price for regular gasoline in the state is found in Orange County for $4.130, up about 13 cents from last week's low price.

Texas: There is no let-up in the skyrocketing gasoline prices throughout Texas, according to the AAA weekly survey.

AAA reported that regular self-serve averaged $3.844 per gallon, up 11 cents from last week.

The survey also reported that more than half of the auto club's members have cut back significantly on the miles they drive with 66 percent combining errands to reduce driving.

"There is no doubt that gas prices are having a big impact on many Texans," said Mark Bell, regional vice president and general manager for AAA Texas. "Drivers are changing how they drive and how often because of the relentless upward swing in gas prices."

The most expensive gasoline in Texas was found in Amarillo, where regular self-serve rose 11 cents to $3.859 per gallon. The cheapest gas was in Corpus Christi, where the average price rose 6 cents to $3.804 per gallon.

Florida: The sunshine state is struggling with many older gasoline pumps that do not have the technology to post a price beyond $3.99 a gallon.

Regular gasoline now averages $3.959 in Florida. Mid-grade sells for $4.289 and premiums sells for $4.368 a gallon.

The pricing issue on older pumps is a problem especially for mom-and-pop retailers struggling with diminished sales margins, according to a spokesman for the National Association of Convenience Stores.

In an opinion issued late Monday by Judge Mary Schroeder, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires debt collectors to prove that they have used detailed procedures to ensure that they do not take actions that are prohibited by the act, such as harassing consumers, overbilling or making deceptive statements.

"A debt collector is not entitled to just sit back and wait until a creditor makes a mistake and then institute procedures to prevent an occurrence," the court ruled.

The case involved Arizona resident Robert Reichert, who was contacted by a debt collector about an outstanding bill from his old apartment complex. The debt collector, National Credit Systems Inc., had tacked on charges for "attorney’s fees," but couldn’t explain where the charges came from. The collection agency claimed that it had overlooked the error because the landlord-creditor had always provided accurate information in the past. The court rejected that defense, holding that debt collectors must show detailed preventive procedures to escape liability for their actions.

"The court’s ruling will compel debt collectors to police themselves more effectively," said Deepak Gupta, an attorney for Public Citizen who argued the case. "The ruling is very significant at a time in which increasing numbers of Americans are being contacted by debt collectors and abuses are on the rise."

The foreclosure tsunami gained strength at the start of 2008, with foreclosures surging 112 percent over the same period a year ago. The real estate marketing firm RealtyTrac says first-quarter foreclosures were up 23 percent over the last quarter of 2007.

The foreclosure report comes on the same day as the latest S&P Case/Shiller Home Price Index showed home prices falling 12.7 percent in the last 12 months, ending in February. The Index tracks home prices in the 20 largest U.S. housing markets.

Of the 20 markets surveyed, 17 had record declines. Half of the markets reported double-digit price declines.

"There is no sign of a bottom in the numbers," said S&P spokesman David M. Blitzer.

The firm's quarterly report shows foreclosure filings — default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions — were reported on 649,917 properties during the first quarter, with one in every 194 U.S. households receiving a foreclosure filing during the period.

"Foreclosure activity in the first quarter increased on a year-over-year basis in 46 out of the 50 states and in 90 of the nation's 100 largest metro areas, demonstrating that most regions of the country are seeing more foreclosures," said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. "In some areas there are also some unusual, non-market factors impacting the foreclosure numbers."

As an example, Saccacio points to the city of Philadelphia, which in late March issued a temporary moratorium on all foreclosure auctions for April.

The city has since adopted a program that will delay foreclosure proceedings on owner-occupied properties until the owners have met face-to-face with lenders to attempt a loan workout plan that would prevent foreclosure.

"While we're hopeful that programs like those in Philadelphia will have a positive long-term impact, they could be simply deferring another flood of foreclosures," Saccacio said. "And that could extend the length of time it takes the market to recover from this downward cycle, in which we've already seen seven consecutive quarters of increasing foreclosure activity."

West is worst
Nevada, California and Arizona posted the top state foreclosure rates in the latest report.

One in every 54 Nevada households received a foreclosure filing during the first quarter, the highest foreclosure rate among the states and 3.6 times the national average. Foreclosure filings were reported on 19,595 Nevada properties during the quarter, up 3 percent from the previous quarter and up 137 percent from the first quarter of 2007.

Foreclosure filings were reported on 169,831 California properties during the first quarter, the highest total among the states and a rate of one in every 78 households — the nation's second highest foreclosure rate. Foreclosure activity in California increased 32 percent from the previous quarter and was up nearly 213 percent from the first quarter of 2007.

Arizona documented the nation's third highest state foreclosure rate, with one in every 95 households receiving a foreclosure filing during the quarter. Foreclosure filings were reported on 27,404 Arizona properties during the quarter, up 45 percent from the previous quarter and up nearly 245 percent from the first quarter of 2007.

Foreclosure filings were reported on 87,893 Florida properties during the first quarter, the second highest state total and giving Florida the nation's fourth highest foreclosure rate — one in every 97 households received a foreclosure filing during the quarter. Foreclosure activity in the state was up 17 percent from the previous quarter and up 178 percent from the first quarter of 2007.

Colorado foreclosure activity increased 33 percent from the previous quarter and 78 percent from the first quarter of 2007, and the state's foreclosure rate ranked No. 5 among the states. Foreclosure filings were reported on 18,996 Colorado properties during the quarter, a rate of one in every 110 households.

Other states with foreclosure rates among the top 10 were Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Top metro areas
The Q1 2008 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report also ranks the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas by foreclosure rate. California and Florida metro areas accounted for 13 of the top 20 metro foreclosure rates, with the California cities of Stockton and Riverside-San Bernardino taking the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

One in every 30 Stockton households received a foreclosure filing during the quarter — 6.6 times the national average — and one in every 38 Riverside-San Bernardino households received a foreclosure filing during the quarter — more than five times the national average.

Other California metro areas in the top 20 included Bakersfield at No. 4, Sacramento at No. 5, San Diego at No. 9, Oakland at No. 10, Fresno at No. 12, Los Angeles at No. 17 and Orange County at No. 19.

Las Vegas documented the third highest metro foreclosure rate, with one in every 44 households receiving a foreclosure filing during the quarter. The metro area's foreclosure activity increased 1 percent from the previous quarter and 134 percent from the first quarter of 2007.

Detroit foreclosure activity in the first quarter decreased 22 percent from the previous quarter and was down almost 4 percent from the first quarter of 2007, but the metro area's foreclosure rate still ranked No. 6, with one in every 68 households receiving a foreclosure filing during the quarter. Phoenix foreclosure activity increased 46 percent from the previous quarter and 294 percent from the first quarter of 2007, and the metro area's foreclosure rate ranked No. 7, with one in every 70 households receiving a foreclosure filing during the quarter.

The highest ranked Florida metro area was Fort Lauderdale, which ranked No. 8 with one in every 73 households receiving a foreclosure filing during the quarter. Other Florida metro areas in the top 20 included Orlando at No. 13, Miami at No. 14 and Sarasota-Bradenton-Venice at No. 15. The foreclosure rate in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater ranked No. 21.

Other metro areas with foreclosure rates among the top 20 included Denver at No. 11, Atlanta at No. 16, Cleveland at No. 18 and Memphis, Tenn., at No. 20.

Like a Porsche passing a radar trap, the cost of a gallon of regular gasoline has blazed past the $3.50 mark, climbing to $3.511, according to AAA.

There appears to be no end in sight for the price run up.

One month ago regular gasoline averaged $3.26 a gallon and one year ago a gallon cost $2.85. The national average price for regular gasoline is up 23 percent from a year ago, according to AAA.

Diesel is selling for $4.204, an increase of $1.27 a gallon over last year.

California suffers from the highest gasoline prices in the country with a gallon averaging $3.867 in the state. Gasoline is cheapest on average in New Jersey at $3.317.

Oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg blamed the record gasoline prices on record crude oil costs. Lundberg does not expect the prices to go down anytime soon.

Crude oil set a record for the sixth day in a row, settling at $117.48 a barrel, up 79 cents. Oil prices have more than quadrupled in the last five years.

The cheapest gas gallon of regular gasoline is found in Columbus, Ohio for $3.13. The most expensive is on sale in Paia, Hawaii for $4.18.

Meanwhile a new survey finds that consumers are alarmed by skyrocketing gas prices and increasingly concerned by automakers' delays in providing more fuel-efficient cars. Read more ...

Perfect Peace Inc. is an organization designed to help Victims of domestic violence. If you or anyone you know have or had been exposed to abuse in any way, we want to help you by whatever means necessary. We want to be able to give victims some peace of mind while recovering.

THE OWNER OF PERFECT PEACE is a witness that there is life after Domestic Violence! Being a Victim once herself, she can really understand what Victims feel and really relate to what they are going through. Being a victim, she can share with others one on one on how she overcome domestic violence.

There are over 60,000 or more Victims per minute, especially Women and Children all over the World who has been exposed to or becomes a Victim of Domestic Violence. Domestic Violence Crimes/Death are raising greatly in numbers on a Daily basis.

Perfect Peace Inc. Mission is to Educate the Community and the World at large on Domestic Violence. Domestic Violence is mostly hidden in homes, schools and workplaces. Our Teenagers are Victims who choose to not talk about it too!

We'll be providing films, documentary and literature and hire Professional Trainers and/or Role Models of the Community to come in and to speak on the subject at hand regarding past and present outcomes of Domestic Violence and on Violence as a whole. We'll be providing 24 hours Emergency phone numbers for help and one day soon have our own Group Home. We would like to have Special Events for the Community to encourage them to get involved. Whether it's through volunteering their services to Perfect Peace to help assist us in assisting Victims or in whatever our need or Others may be. Another Goal is to provide whatever temporary assistance Victim's may need to get on to a Healthier and better life. Our focus is to provide and assist Victims with a way of escape from their violent Environments and help them to begin a Life of peace, joy and happiness. We'll be working very closely with Law Enforcement and other Agencies with the same Goals and Mission as we have. We realize the importance of Networking to bring Domestic Violence to an End. It's going to take all of Us to do this!!
